For so long people have believed that eating fat will make you fat. Recently this untrue myth has been coming to light more and more in the media. People are starting to realize that eating GOOD fats is actually better for our overall health (and this includes weight). I was definitely one of those people that tried to steer away from those “healthy fats” as much as possible because I thought it would make me gain weight. But instead, I was actually just depriving my body of the nutrients it needed to stay active and healthy! This means my skin, hair, energy, and weight suffered.
Fats aren’t the problem guys. The KINDS of fats that we eat is what really matters. Our bodies NEED and CRAVE fats. From everything to energy, metabolism, reproduction, and brain function, we need good fats to help keep each area working properly and efficiently. So what is the best way to get these fats into our daily diet? I have one word for you that is going to change your life: GHEE.
What the heck is GHEE? Yeah, I asked the same question the first time that I was told about this amazing superfood. Ghee is not something that is new or “just a fad.” Ghee has been used for years and years in cultures like India for healing and nourishing the body. It’s amazing how these ancient ways of eating and living produce much healthier people than those of us who live in modern culture. This just shows that the more REAL foods we put into our bodies, the better (and longer) they will function.
So Ghee is pretty much the purest form of butter you could possibly achieve. To me, it tastes better than movie theater butter (and we all know how good that stuff is). During the butter-making process, Ghee is made when the milk is removed from the butter. This clarifies the substance and therefore Ghee is formed. All of the impurities are taken away, and you are left with a pure fat that has an amazing taste and even better health benefits. It is this beautiful bright yellow color which shows just how pure it actually is. (Plus it smells soooooo good!)
My favorite brand of Ghee is Ancient Organics. Their Ghee is organic and grass-fed, which means that the milk used to make the ghee came from cows that were fed grass instead of grains; this is SO much better for our health. We already intake enough grains into our diet, we definitely do not need them in the butter, milk, or Ghee too. One of the great things about Ghee is that it does not have to be refrigerated, so you can store it for a really long time. This doesn’t affect me too much because I seriously eat it ALL THE TIME! It’s a good thing that the jars are so big. Ancient Organics cooks their Ghee in the way that traditional cultures do, with no added antibiotics, growth hormones, or pesticides. This gives the Ghee a much sweeter and nuttier flavor that goes great with anything.
I put Ghee on everything. From toast, waffles, coffee, popcorn, biscuits….anything that you would put butter on, put some Ghee on it! You will be amazed how yummy it is and how much it improves the taste of whatever you are eating/drinking. It’s one of those things you can do for your health that doesn’t feel like a chore or something that you dread doing. It actually makes eating more fun and delicious, PLUS you’ll feel better too! I mean, who doesn’t want to put butter on everything? It’s also great to use in recipes that call for butter, or when topping homemade scones, muffins, or any other type of treat (I’m a breakfast nut if you can’t tell).
So what are the health benefits of this amazing superfood? There are really SO MANY:
- Aids in proper digestion
- Gives you energy
- Reduces inflammation (in all areas of the body)
- Contains antioxidants like Vitamin A which is great for Cancer prevention
- Increases hair/skin/nail/eye health
- Promotes healthy joints
When I started incorporating more fats into my diet (GHEE) all of a sudden I had this newfound energy! I’m not saying I’m the energizer bunny all the time or anything, but I no longer feel so sluggish and tired every single day. There were so many days when I just wanted to go back to bed as soon as I woke up. That is not a fun way to live. This is one of the biggest effects I noticed. I also noticed that my hair was growing faster than before and was starting to thicken; this was amazing because my hair had been unhealthy for so long! Because Ghee is in such a pure form, it can penetrate our cells faster than other fats, therefore giving our body these benefits at a faster rate.
I really hope you guys have a better understanding of what Ghee is, and why I’m SO obsessed with it. Like I said, this isn’t just a fad. Ghee is an ancient superfood that has been used throughout history for all of these benefits that I discussed. Incorporating this healthy fat can change your body from the inside out, and just help you FEEL so much better. I promise, try it on toast one time….you’ll be hooked. I swear, if my toast doesn’t have Ghee on it, it feels naked or something.
