Hello beauties! Hope everyone is having a fabulous start to their week on this warm Monday (60 degrees here in NC)! These last few days haven’t been so fun for me. I have had this dreadful cold that has slowed my body down tremendously. I seriously went through almost a whole box of tissues in one day! I’ve been a stuffy mess to be honest. Of course, getting sick is one of your body’s ways to tell you to SLOW DOWN and detox. But hey there Mrs. Body, I HATE slowing down so could you please get this out of my system, K? Thanks. I wish it were that simple don’t you? So since it’s not, I’ve been doing everything I can to get over this cold and thank goodness it is almost gone. A lot of people want to take excessive amounts of cold medicine or other pills when they are sick, but I try to flush the toxins out in the most natural ways possible. Here are some of my tips to get rid of simple sicknesses! These are simple techniques but it doesn’t hurt to be reminded every now and then.


  1. Stay Hydrated-I know sometimes when we are sick, it is hard to drink anything, much less water. When I have an upset stomach or anything like that, water almost makes it worse. So, try hydrating your body with something else that is beneficial. Bai antioxidant drinks are absolutely delish and contain nutrients that are great for cleansing the body when it is detoxing. These drinks contain no artificial sweeteners, are gluten-free, and only have 10 calories per bottle. Another thing that helps me feel better when I am sick is a fizzy drink of some sort, but I refuse to drink regular soda. So, my friend introduced to Zevia sodas, and I love them! These sodas are zero calorie and are naturally sweetened by Stevia and Monk Fruit with no artificial flavors, and they are Non-GMO. They have so many flavors and they taste just as great as regular soda. My favorite is the Ginger Ale which is perfect when I’m sick.


2. Heat up a Rice Bag- Rice bags are literally life savers for me during the Winter, and especially when I’m sick. A rice bag is a small pillow-like object that contains rice that you can heat and reheat in the microwave and it holds warmth for a long period of time. These are great for putting on your stomach, head, neck, or chest when you are sick. And if you get cold a lot like I do, they are great all the time! I just put mine in the microwave for 2-3 minutes (depending on your bag). These come in all different styles and scents too.
3. Downton Abbey Marathon- So I don’t know if you guys have watched Downton Abbey yet, but if not, you’re missing out! It’s a series about a family that lives on a beautiful and large estate in England before WW1. The lives of the servants and the lives of the family are very different, and they are always somehow intertwined with drama, suspense, love, and mystery. I’m obsessed with the elegant and classy lifestyle of this era that includes fabulous vintage fashion and lavish tea time. I just started season 3 and I am definitely hooked. This show is a perfect pastime that will allow your body to rest while transporting your mind back in time. This show is available on Amazon Prime, iTunes, and PBS.

4. Vitamin C- It is quite obvious that Vitamin C is a very important thing to take when you are sick, but one of the easiest and most affective ways for me to get Vitamin C in my system is by drinking Emergen-C packets. I have been taking these as long as I can remember, and they always kill my cold or bug in days. The great thing about this fizzy vitamin drink mix is that it actually tastes good! There are many flavors and options to choose from as well. I usually drink 2-3 each day when I’m sick or I feel that I am getting sick.
5. Eat Light and Smart- Sometimes it’s hard to have an appetite when we are sick, and if we do have an appetite, it might be harmful to eat more than our body can handle. Protein bars are always my go-to when I’m sick. My new protein-bar obsession is ONE bars by Oh Yeah! These bars only have 1 gram of sugar and 21 grams of protein! They are easy on the stomach, and totally delicious! My favorites are the Birthday Cake, Lemon Cake, Chocolate Brownie, and their newest one (and my FAVE) Almond Bliss. If you love Mounds or Almond Joy candy bars, the Almond Bliss ONE bar will be your new obsession. I get these bars at my local Vitamin Shoppe, but you can order them online as well.
As I mentioned earlier, these tips are pretty simple. But, they definitely helped me feel better in just a few days and I hope they will be beneficial to you as well! Now grab some tissues and cozy up in bed with all of your essentials.
